  • Avoid sushi, raw seafood
  • Unpasteurized milk
  • Soft cheese
  • Raw or undercooked meat and poultry
  • Some fish, which contain methyl mercury. It is a metal which is harmful in high doses as it can affect the growing brains of the fetuses
  • Limiting the consumption of tuna and other cooked fish
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Do not drink caffeinated beverages

  • Hands should be washed before using the foods
  • Keep kitchen surfaces clean
  • Do not let uncooked food contaminate cooked food
  • Food should be cooked thoroughly
  • Wear rubber gloves when doing other chores in and around the house like picking up cat litter or working in the garden
  • Store food at the correct temperature
