High Fiber Diet Plan

A high fiber diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes and is good for health.  It is a low calorie diet. It helps you maintain a healthy lifestyle, as it is useful in promoting good health. It is nutritionally rich.

In today’ss fast changing lifestyles, food habits have changed.  Many are eating junk food or rather fast foods, as they have no time to cook.  They are neglecting the nutritional value of food.  There is a need to check this trend in eating habits and nutritionists and doctors promote healthy dietary habits.

Fiber is highly recommended as part of one’ss regular diet. It can be had in many forms and can be part of one’ss breakfast, lunch and dinner.  One can have it as a snack as well.

Some Foods Rich in Fiber

Raw vegetables and fresh fruits are recommended for maintaining good health.  These are better than cooked foods. One must take plenty of them as well as salads. Cabbage is very good.  One can take it raw or boiled. Increase fiber in meat dishes by adding kidney beans, pinto beans, peas, bran or oatmeal.  Bran should be eaten in the morning.  Bread and cereals should also be consumed.

Barley, Lentils, Wheat Flour, Oat Bran Dates, Raspberries, Asian Pears, Prunes, Spinach, Brussels sprouts, onions are all- high in fiber.  These should be part of one’ss diet. Fruits such as raspberries, strawberries, apples, pears, raisins, dates, peaches melons, grapes, plums, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, blueberries etc are rich in fiber.

Other food items such as coconut, nuts, crunchy peanut butter and popcorn contain fiber and one must eat then if one wants fiber in their diet

One must avoid chopping, peeling, cooking or processing as these reduce the fiber content.  Fibers lose their nutritional value if cooked in too much oil and are overcooked.
