Diet for Heart Disease

Diet plays a major role in heart diseases and one can prevent a stroke or other aliments if one takes care of one’ss diet.  Doctors prescribe specific diet regimen to be followed by those suffering from heart problems.  In fact, if one regulates one’ss diet one can avoid heart disease, but if one is already suffering then one can prevent further deterioration by taking a proper diet.

Tips for Heart Disease Diet

  • The diet should consist of less fat, less sodium, fewer calories and more of fiber
  • Fats such as animal meat, cheese and butter should eat less of it or try to avoid
  • Fats are found in palm and coconut oil. One should take less of it
  • Consuming less sodium reduces the blood pressure. Salty foods should be avoided
  • Eat fewer calories. If we eat more calories than we gain weight.  If we eat fewer calories, then we lose weight. Excessive weight can cause heart diseases
  • One should take more fiber. It is good to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread
  • Maintain or improve your weight
  • Prefer skimmed milk.  Milk should have less fat
  • Eliminate fried food. Take more steamed, boiled or food prepared in a microwave
  • Cook with oils which are low in fat such as corn, sunflower, cotton seed, olive oil etc
  • Smoked, canned meat, poultry and fish have more salt. One should eat unsalted fresh or frozen meat, poultry and fish
  • Fatty meats should be avoided, lean meat should be preferred
  • Egg white should be taken rather than an whole egg
  • Sour cream and mayonnaise should be replaced by plain low-fat yogurt, low-fat cottage cheese, or low-fat sour cream and mayonnaise
  • Prefer herbs and spices as seasoning for vegetables and potatoes instead of salt and butter
  • Take unsalted or low-sodium whole-wheat crackers rather than salted crackers. Replace white bread, white rice, and cereals made with white flour with whole-wheat bread, long-grain rice, and whole-grain cereals.
  • Snacks high in salt and fat should be replaced by low-fat, low salt snacks. Cut-up vegetables and fruits can be a quick healthy snack.

Diet plays an important role in the control of heart diseases.  A carefully planned diet would ensure good health. The dietician would prescribe a diet, which is wholesome and nourishing for a heart patient.
