A low-fat diet is all you need to keep your gallbladder free from stones. Along with some other considerations we have planned a perfect dietary chart to ensure a healthy gallbladder.
Do you know that excess fat accumulation in the gallbladder leads to gallbladder stones? Therefore it is expected that the diet prescribed for gallbladder stones should be fat free. A proper dietary guideline specifying the do’s and don’ts incase of eating will help you out with your selection of right food.
Calories
You should be very conscious while choosing your food. A minimum amount of calories is helpful for the body. On the other hand too much of calorie intake increases the risk of gallbladder stones. Consult with your dietitian and get the amount of calorie intake specified for you.
Proteins
Higher amount of protein in your body also causes gallbladder stones. So, limit the intake of protein rich food like fish, meat and eggs.
Fats
Another important element that increases the risk of gallbladder stone is fat. Avoid fat in meat, butter/cheese, excess oils etc and all other food items that are rich in fat.
Carbohydrates
Increased consumption of sugars in food and drink and other forms of sweets is related to the formation. Try to get rid of that.
Fiber
If the intake of fiber is less compared to other elements, increase by including whole grains, fruits, vegetables and cereals. Deficiency of fiber leads to gallbladder stones.
Fluids
It is always to increase the intake of fluid as much as possible.
List of Food Items you should avoid
To be more specific, a list of food items are given below that tell you which food items you should avoid to prevent gallbladder stones.
- Whole milk and milk products like cream, cheese etc.
- Fried stuff like high-fat rolls, pancakes, biscuits or bread, waffles, doughnuts, fritters, muffins, buttered popcorn, cakes, pies etc.
- Ice-creams, creamy desserts, etc.
- Egg yolks and fried eggs.
- 2 to 3 table spoons of oil in a day.
- Fried or fatty meat or fish, poultry, sausages with skin, , visible fat on meat, smoked pork and ham goose, duck, fish canned in oil
- Too many nuts in a day.
- Creamy or oily soups.
- Chocolates and food items containing chocolates.
- Deep-fried potato chips, baked potatoes with sour cream, vegetables fried in butter, rich sauces added to vegetables, more than five small olives a day.
- More than 1/4 avocado a day.
