All of us succumbed to Acid reflux or regurgitation or heartburn at least once in our lifetime. Eating foods that decrease incidence of heartburn is a concern for all of us. Some individuals are more vulnerable to heartburn, and they can avoid it by following a healthy diet plan, concentrating on foods that do not trigger this problem. Also, you can do simple tasks to prevent reflux such as eating early (at least three hours before bedtime), taking meals in smaller portions, sitting up or standing, and sleeping with the head elevated. Non-peppermint flavored chewing gum stimulates the saliva production, which, in turn, neutralizes the acid and aids in digestion of the food and its quick movement to the small intestines.   1. Bananas –absorbs the excess acid in the stomach, thereby lessening heartburn in a short time. Drinking a glass of cool water after eating the banana also helps.
  2. Yogurt –a luscious dairy product, is a great stomach soother.  When you feel the start of a heartburn, take yogurt. Choose yogurt that is made from natural sugar to keep your calorie count low. Alternately, if you do not have yogurt, even a glass of milk would suffice.
  3. Almonds – If you think you are on the verge of heartburn, have some almonds, either the plain or roasted ones. Avoid the chocolate covered almonds, for chocolate is a trigger. Having almonds eases up the digestive system much quicker.
  4. Apples – pacify the heartburn. Truly, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
  5. Papaya – has natural enzymes that aid in digestion. It is a high fiber food and helps in regular bowel movement.
  6. Anise seeds – relieve indigestion. Either use it sprinkled over yogurt or make tea out of it.
  7. Ginger –has that ability to soothe your upset stomach. Add one teaspoon of powdered ginger to a cup of hot water to relieve symptoms of your heartburn.
  8. Fennel – is a tradition tested digestive aid and cure for heartburn. Either chew a few fennel seeds after meal or make tea with the seeds. You can also include fennel in soups and stews.
  9. Aloe vera juice – calms the stomach. Try drinking aloe vera juice on a regular basis.
  10. Carrots – are not only healthy for your eyes and skin, but for your stomach too. Eating carrot in the raw form would ease your heartburn.
