Breast Milk Composition

Breast milk refers to the milk which is composed in the body of a female to feed her young one. The milk of the mother is the only source of nutrition which the baby takes after it is born. This milk is nutritious and is also easily digested by the young one.

The composition of the breast milk comprises of proteins, lipids, vitamins, minerals, hormones, nitrogenous – compounds which are non – proteinious, growth hormones and other protective agents. Apart from these water is present which known to be 90% of the total content. Then, 10% of the solids are also there which are responsible for the growth and energy of the baby.

Composition Of The Breast Milk:

The milk which the breast of the mother produce to feed her baby has 0.8% – 0.9% of the protein, the quantity of fat is about 10% – 15%, carbohydrate content is about 6.9% – 7.2% and about 0.2% is minerals.

Carbohydrates are found in the form of lactose and other oligosaccharides which are lactose – based components. Fat is present in the form of triglycerideslike Palmitic and Oleic acid. A large quantity of lipids with trans fat are found which are very beneficial for the baby’s health.

The main constituents of the protein includes homologous casein which can be up to a higher level of beta casein, lactoferrin, alfa – lactalbumin, serum – albumin, lysozyme. Non – protein nitrogen containing compounds comprises of uric acid, urea, creatinine, creatine, nucleotides and amino acids.
