Inflammation is the condition in which some part of the body suffers from pain, swelling, redness and heat due to some injury. This condition arises as the instant reaction by the body to the physical and chemical irritants or to the agents like bacteria and viruses.
Natural anti -inflammatory supplements are beneficial in treating the problem easily. It is not at all difficult to search a natural anti inflammatory. These are easily available in the market. Some of them are Curcumin, ginger root, boswellia etc.
Natural Anti – Inflammatory Supplements:
Some of the anti inflammatory supplements are:
- Curcumin: It is the active anti – inflammatory agent which is found in turmeric. Curcumin inhibits the activity of the enzymes like cyclooxygenase and 5 – lipoxygenase and also blocks the synthesis of pro – inflammatory eicosanoids. If curcumin is used in any anti – inflammatory drug then it reduces the swellling, pain and stiffness especially in rheumatoid arthritis. It has also proved beneficial in treating the post surgical inflammation.
- Boswellia: The gum resin of the boswellia tree yields about 70% of the boswellic acid. It has proved beneficial in treating osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Boswellic acid inhibits the enzyme of 5 – lipoxygenase enzyme in the white blood cells. These are more liked supplements because they do not have any side effects.
- Ginger Root Extract: The extract of ginger root has proved beneficial in treating the muscle inflammation and also the inflammation caused in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The constituents of ginger root extract comprises of gingerols which are supposed to hinder the activity of the enzymes like cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. The extract of ginger must not be taken by the patients of gall stones as they have the side effects of heart burn and digestive upset.
- White Willow Bark Extract: This extract has been proved effective in treating back pain, arthritis and joint related inflammatory conditions. The extract of white willow contains phenolic glycosides like salicin which hinders cycooxylase enzyme thus blocking the production of PG-2 . It has very rare side effects.
