Ginger is a famous dietary supplement. It is a herb with several health benefits.The active components present in this herb are Pungent phenolic compounds like shogaols and gingerols and Volatile oils. However,this article tries to understand ginger side effects.
There are several ways in which ginger is taking in the body.They are: Eating the fresh or dried root, taking the powder, tablets and capsules.
Side effect of ginger:
- Ginger in its powdered form when taken in excess amounts can lead to gas, bad mouth taste, nausea ,bloating and irritation.
- Ginger is advised to the patients suffering from blocked intestines, gall bludder stones and inflammatory bowel diseases. They chew fresh ginger. But there is a word of caution for them.If the ginger is not chewed properly then it can block the intestines leading to further complications.
- Ginger is known to lower blood pressure and sugar levels.It also prevents blood clotting. But patients of diabetes, surgery and hypertension who are given Ginger supplements in the form of tablets and capsules should be cautious.It is because ginger can rise the risk of bleeding in these patients.
SEVERE side effects of Ginger are:
- Allergic reactions like itching,hives,rash.
- Difficulty in breathing.
- Chocking in the chest.
- Swelling of the face, mouth, lips, or tongue.
- Abnormal urination.
- Drowsiness.
