Age-related cataract is a leading cause of blindness. Though the exact cause of cataract is still not known, scientists all over the world are trying to find out whether healthy food can mitigate the progression of cataracts.

How Oxidative Stress Cause Cataract Progression?

Experts suggest that exposure to smoke, radiation, unhealthy foods, pollutions or chemicals can cause an imbalance between free radicals and the antioxidants. This can cause oxidative stress. The oxidative stress within the eyes can damage fats and proteins in the lens to the extent that they become cloudy and damaged, resulting in cataracts.

Can Diet Check Progression of Cataract?

It is suggested that to halt cataract progression, one can take at least 4-5 servings of dark green and colourful fruits and vegetables and three servings of whole grains every day. One may also take two servings of fish (preferably omega-3 fatty acids) every week.
