Since years coffee and citrus fruits are considered as the triggers of acid reflux and avoided to cure heartburn. But according to research study coffee and citrus fruits dont aggravate symptoms of acid reflux.

Myth 3: Drink Lot of Milk
To get relief from heartburn many people drink milk before going to bed but ends up worsening the condition during sleep. But the fact is milk has a rebound action and stimulates the secretion of acid hence aggravating the condition. Before going to bed make sure that you eat light and small meal. Small and light meal is ease to digest. Before going to bed you can eat small snack like cracker. This will relieve you from bed-time acid reflux discomfort.

Myth 4: Eat Frequently
It is observed that most of the people misunderstand the phrase “eat frequently”. By eating frequently they mean eating more and large meals. But the fact is that when you are suffering from acid reflux you need to cut down your meal size. Instead of eating 3 large and heavy meals, eat 6 small and light meals. Small and light meals require less stomach acid for digestion.

Myth 5: Drink Carbonated Drinks
It is observed that people believe that carbonated drinks relieve from symptoms of acid reflux. Diet sodas and soda pops might get you quick relief from heartburn but the fact is the relief is temporary. According to various research studies diet sodas are considered to be acid forming beverage and worsen the condition. Hence it is advisable to avoid diet sodas and alcohol to get relief from acid reflux symptoms.

The best way to prevent heartburn or acid reflux is eat healthy and balanced diet. Make sure that you take small portions of meal. It is advisable to consult your physician immediately in case of prolonged discomfort.
