It is true that your diet greatly influences your skin. In case you have a dry skin then you can easily retain skin moisture by making few dietary changes. Dry skin is basically characterized by low level of sebum production. Lower levels of sebum make it difficult to retain moisture in the skin hence results in parched skin. Generally people with dry skin feel uncomfortable after washing their face or during winter season.
You can easily get rid of common problems faced due to dry skin by making few dietary changes. Listed below is recommended diet especially for people with dry skin:
- First and foremost make sure that you are taking a balanced diet consisting of grains, buts, fresh vegetables, fruits and seeds.
- People with dry skin should eat lot of raw food. Make sure that your diet contains lot of raw food.
- Consume quality protein especially from vegetable source.
- Consume foods which are rich source of sulphur like onions, eggs, garlic and asparagus. Sulphur is beneficial in keeping your dry skin youthful and smooth.
- Make sure that you include lot of orange and yellow colored vegetables and fruits in your diet. These vegetables and fruits contain high levels of beta-carotene a potent antioxidant.
- Make sure that you eat flax-seed oil daily. It is advisable to use unrefined cold-pressed flax seed oil. Flax seed oil is rich source of essential fatty acid like omega-3 alpha linolenic acid and omega-6 linoleic acid which are essential for healthy skin.
- Include foods which are rich source of Vitamin A and C like apricots, cantaloupes, carrots, etc. in your dry skin diet. Both Vitamin A and C are essential for making your skin supple and soft.
- Foods rich in Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) like leafy green vegetables, quark, wheat germ, milk cheese, plain yogurt and yeast are also essential for dry skin. Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid is required for the production of oil and fat which makes your skin soft and supple.
- Make sure that you drink at least 2 quarts or 8 glasses of water daily. Water is essential to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized.
- It is advisable to avoid animal fats, fried foods and spicy food.
- It is better to use cold-pressed oil for cooking process as heat processed cooking oils enhances the production of free radicals.
- Avoid junk foods, chocolate, excess sugar, soft drinks, etc.
- It is advisable not to consume caffeine and alcohol because these contain substances due to which skin tends to lose fluids and essential minerals.
