Why Breakfast is the ‘Most Important Meal’?

Overview

‘Eat Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dinner like a Pauper’- Adelle Davis.

You’ve probably read or heard that quote before, but have you ever asked why breakfast is the most important meal of the day?

Importance of Breakfast

  • Regularly eating breakfast enhances your metabolism.
  • A healthy breakfast improves your ability to concentrate and enhances your productivity.
  • People who routinely eat a healthy breakfast are more likely to control their weight.
  • A healthy breakfast sets the tone for healthy eating throughout the day.
  • What Goes into a Healthy Breakfast

Choose foods that are both appealing to you in the morning and belong to the set of healthy foods from which you choose throughout the day. Your best breakfast can include any or all of:

  • Dairy Products: opt for skim milk, low-fat cheese or low-fat yogurt.
  • Vegetables and Fruits: any fruit or vegetable can be a healthy part of your breakfast, but avoid high-fat preparations like frying.
  • Protein: choose lean meat, egg whites or egg substitute, tofu or beans.
  • Whole Grains: look for 100-percent whole grain muffins or bread, or enjoy a bowl of oatmeal, barley or brown rice.
  • Conclusion

You may think that skipping breakfast will save calories. However, not eating breakfast can set you up for a day of snacking on junk food and overeating at lunch and dinner. Make a point to include a healthy breakfast as a regular part of the start of your day.

Always consult your doctor before beginning a new diet or exercise regimen.
