According to a latest research you just need to incorporate more of whole grains to your diet. Latest research shows that whole grain diet is effective in reducing your belly fat as well as risk of heart disease.
The study shows that whole grains are helpful in removing that extra fat deposited around your waistline. In addition to this it also reduces your risk of developing any heart disease. It was a comparative study between people following weight loss program with additional whole grains and people on normal weight loss program. A drop of CRP (C – reactive protein) was observed among people with on rich whole grain diet. This research study was published in January 2008 issue of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
How was the Comparative Study Made?
The research was conducted by Heather I Katcher and colleagues of Pennsylvania State University on obese adults detected with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome can be defined as: “a collection of risk factors that increase risk for heart disease and diabetes.” For the sake of comparison 50 obese adults were divided into two groups.
Both the groups were asked to cut down their calorie intake for 12 weeks. 1 group was asked to consume whole grains and products where as the other group was completely deprived from whole grains. By the end of research period it was observed that both groups have lost weight. 1st group had lost an average of 8 pounds of weight where as the other group had lost 11 pounds of weight.
Both the groups observed a major reduction in body fat but significant fat loss from abdominal region was observed among 1st group. According to previous research studies abdominal fat is responsible for enhanced risk of heart disease. The latest study showed that there was a decrease in CRP levels (approximately 38%) in people on whole grain diet. Other benefits of whole grain diet are that they are rich source of dietary fiber and magnesium which is highly beneficial.

If you are going for processed or packed food then check out the ingredients on the label list. Prefer foods with high content of whole grains. Make sure the ingredient list at least contains one of the above. It is not necessary that food labels like “100% wheat,” “multi grain,” “seven grain” or “bran” are whole grain product. So check the list before buying any whole grain product.
