A new study by scientists from U. K, Spain and Greece suggests that Mediterranean diet rich in fruits, nuts vegetables etc reduces the risk of hay fever in children.
The study was conducted on 690 schoolchildren aged between 7 to 18 years in Crete, Greece. All the parents were asked several questions about their children’s eating habits and allergic reactions associated with it. All the children underwent skin prick tests for 10 most common allergies.
Result of the Study:
- The researchers found that children who follow an average Mediterranean diet are 30% less likely to develop hay fever.
- Children who take a lot of fruits along with Mediterranean diet are 60% less likely to develop hay fever.
- The researchers concluded that if a traditional Mediterranean diet is consumed on regular basis, it can greatly reduce symptoms of allergies in children.
What is Hey Fever?
Hey fever shows some allergic conditions which affect eyes and mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract. It is often characterized by watery eyes, sneezing and nasal discharge usually caused by an abnormal sensitivity to airborne pollen.
