It’s Christmas again! We all know that Christmas means the time of the year when we party hard without thinking any thing else. This is the time when you cannot avoid putting on extra weight while having a great fun.
The following are some holiday eating tips so that you can still look good and be healthy in this party season without having to deprive yourself of all the holiday treats.
- Don’t go to a party hungry: we often tend to eat more when you are hungry. Therefore eat a wholesome breakfast and lunch on the day to avoid overeating at the party.
- Watch your portion: enjoy having a nice drink, dessert, chocolate or sweets without fear, but always watch your portion. Go for small portions. Moderation should always be your choice as this will save you from over eating.
- Limit high fat items: fried food, cream-based soup, cheese-filled casseroles, pies, processed meats such as salami and sausages, some pastries and baked goods are a few examples of high fat food. Being conscious about your food will thus help you keep your calorie count normal.
- Try other versions of alcohol: instead of beer, cider, Bailey’s and Kahlua, try dry wine, Bloody Marys or spirits with diet mixer which have fewer calories. Always keep in mind that calories from alcohol get stored in the abdomen.
- Drink plenty of water: keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water, because alcohol and coffee can dehydrate your body.
- Physical activity: brisk walks with your loved in this holiday season can be taken as a very good physical activity to burn out your extra calories.
Other than eating blindly any thing in the party, it is better to know what available substitutes can be taken which are totally fat free. Given below are some very essential food substitutes that you can go for if possible in the party.
- Take 2 egg whites other than 1 whole egg.
- Go for low fat plain yogurt or low fat sour cream other than sour cream.
- Choose frozen yogurt other than ice cream.
- 2 tablespoons flour whisked into 2 cups non fat milk is better than having heavy cream (not for whipping)
- Chilled evaporated skim milk is a better substitute than whipped cream
- Low-fat cheese is a better option than plain cheese.
